Our Slice of Paradise Sneak Peak

This month's room reveal is a bit different.

We had Your Home & Garden come and visit us up at our Beach House in Whananaki, Northland which is the front page feature in this month's issue.

You lucky people get a little sneak peak of the house here... but if you want the full low-down and spread, go an pick up the latest issue in store now.

This is a virtual tour of our Beach House in Whananaki. The full edit and write up can be found in the latest issue (May 2017) of Your Home and Garden

We love coming to Whananaki as it is a place where we can truly relax and unwind, leaving our busy lives in Auckland. With next to no cell phone coverage and it’s own little micro climate, it is almost always sunny.

Our Beach House that has been a labour of love over the past 4 years accommodates us as often as we can get up there. We also extend the welcome to renters through bookabach.co.nz

Many family gatherings, annual holidays and retreats have been held at the house, all with positive feedback on how beautiful the area is.

A little bit about Mini Whananaki...

Corban was given a very unique opportunity to purchase and remove the MINI Car Showroom builing that was on Ponsonby Road. The building was originally made up of twenty shipping container modules and was a two storied building. It was logistically very complicated but we moved it up to our section, reconfigured and designed a house using all of it’s components.

We relocated all 20 shipping containers to Whananaki on countryside narrow winding roads. It took 10 truckloads and a 50 tonne crane on both ends of the transfer, as well as 3 and a half days to completley dismantle the building ready for transporting.

Once the containers were transported, the crane positioned all containers into the form that created the footprint of our new home.

With our top friend and Architect Fraser Horton, he designed a beautiful home re-purposing pretty much the entire building. Taking all of our desires into consideration to make it a holiday home that focusses on family, hospitality and soaking in the beautiful scenery and views.

Corban lived in Whananaki for 3 months solid in a caravan with no power, no shower and no personal toilet just to build the house in time for our wedding in January 2013.

Corban assisted the build, plumbing, electrical, painting…everything along the way, and over the last 3 years he built the dining table, the library shelves, all beds and bunks, outdoor sofa and planter boxes… pretty much everything in the house we did ourselves. Alex did all of the interior fit-out and cooked all of the meals that Corban needed to keep going.

Here's a little sneaky peak of our favourite parts of the house. For the full edit check out the latest Your Home & Garden.
