Yes it’s true, we are expecting a baby boy at the end of September. Our world as we know it is about to be turned around upside down, and we are pretty confused to whether we are frightened or excited about the situation? But in true pregnancy style, I have been nesting away to create the much anticipated womb (room) reveal nursery for our little lad.
My idea on creating a nursery that I won’t regret in months to come, is to start with something neutral, and as you get to learn about your little one watching their character and personality develop over time- that’s when you get to looking at colour and pieces that will stimulate them as they start to do things on their own.
Starting off with this fun Buffalo Art print, it set the tone for a slightly rustic and natural texture themed room, which immediately drew me to furnish with raw timbers, leather and animal hides paired with neutral and warm tan, golden yellow and khaki green in the furnishings.
We chose a lovely warm neutral colour for our V grooved walls Dulux Kauri Cliffs Double which is a perfect match to the golden hues of the American oak flooring. I just love how this wall colour works so perfectly with the natural light of this room, creating real warmth that a stark white wall wouldn’t provide.
When you’re setting up your baby’s room, think about you as well as the bub. Think about comfort needed for when feeding with a chair that you could sit in all night, with an ottoman to rest your feet.
Consider a good height of your change table so you don’t have to bend over and strain your back for changing.
Most importantly, ensure you create a station that has everything you need within arm’s reach for when changing and dressing the bubs. Storage baskets are super important, helping you categorise all the bits and pieces you need.
THINK ABOUT YOU:
You are the one that is going to enjoy the aesthetics of the nursery as your baby develops into a toddler- so choosing furniture pieces and colours that you personally love at this point is ok!
Then when you and the baby are ready, you can change furniture, add toys, create more of a theme- which will be dead easy when you have started off with this neutral palette.
